Where has October gone?! I can believe it’s going to be November next week! This month has felt like it’s flown by, probably because we’ve had something planned every weekend. The first weekend we celebrated my in-laws’ 50th wedding anniversary, the next weekend I went to a wedding, and this past one we were in Omaha– which turned out to be very fun, but more on that later.

This weekend we also have plans to go to a Halloween party. Every year we tell each other that we’re not going to procrastinate and we’re going to plan our costumes early. Every year we also actually do procrastinate and then make a mad scramble trying to throw something together. Initially we were going to be little bo peep, a wolf, and then Pickle (our pug) was going to be a sheep. I couldn’t find a sheep costume I liked online, so I bought him a hotdog one. Next Curtis and I were thinking of going as David S. Pumpkins and a skeleton because we are obsessed with that SNL skit- any questions? If you don’t know what I’m talking about you need to go watch it here, RIGHT NOW! (And yes I did watch it again when I looked up the link.) Now though we don’t have a plan and need to come up with something ASAP!

Costume or not, we’re going to party and these maple apple moscow mules are a great way to kick things off.


  • 2 small gala apples or 1/2 cup apple juice
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 shot brandy or bourbon
  • 1 can ginger beer
  • cinnamon sticks to garnish


Half and juice the apples. In a cocktail shaker add ice, the apple juice, maple syrup, and bourbon. Shake well for 20-30 seconds. Strain mixture into a separate glass with ice. Top it off with ginger beer and stir. Cheers!
